RE: DVD Player

Yikes! We bought a new DVD player and took it home to install. What a nightmare. It certainly isn't easy. First of all we did remove the old player. The speaker wires did not have the same type connectors so we were going to have to remove the TV to get to the wires. However, in our model the fireplace has to be removed to replace the TV. Now we are wondering if our TV will have to be replaced to meet the new digital requirements. Agh!!!!! So far we just put the old stuff back in and are using the radio and not the DVD player.

RE: Best books/guides on picking a campground?

I often use the Trailer Life directory on line (www.tldirectory.com)as a starting point. On one trip we met a couple who goes to google earth and zooms in on the campground so they can actually look at it and see if it meets their needs. We are a couple who likes those pull-thrus but free wifi is our first priority whenever possible.

RE: How do you protect your carpet from slide-out rollers?

What I wonder is why they carpet the floors anyway. There are so many nice vinyl or laminate floors now which would be much easier to keep clean. Maybe it is because of warmth? but it seems a little extra insulation would take care of that. Particularly when we go to the beach, the sand in the carpet is a big problem. Does anyone have an RV without carpet?

RE: Travel Maps

Thanks, I got it. Now I will try to add it to my profile.

Travel Maps

I have noticed that many of you have a picture of your US map with stickers. Did you simply take a picture of the map on your RV or is that available on line? I would like to add this to my site. Thanks

RE: What would 20" rims do for my TV?

Imagine my surprise when I went to this post expecting to read about a television. Some of this new terminology can be figured out but I am lost here. What are you referring to when you say TV?

RE: DVD Player

Thanks for allthe ideas. It would be possible to move the DVD but not too practical. The TV is built in over a fireplace with surround sound speakers. The equipment for an automobile sounds sensible and we will definitely check out Yamaha. Anytime you don't buy something specifically for an RV you can save money so it is certainly worth looking at.

RE: chocking wheels

Thanks for the plans for the wheel chock. I will put it on my husband's "honey do" list.

RE: chocking wheels

I read the replies to this message and am interested in the homemade chocks between the wheels. We use the regular chocks which are safe but sometimes we have a lot of movement. Anyone have a pattern or design for the homemade ones?

DVD Player

In our Keystone, Laredo fiver, our TV, DVD, etc. are in the back, left corner. We have had two DVD/Radio units which do not work in three years. The radio part still works but DVD/CDs will no longer play. We think perhaps it is due to the vibration as we travel. Do any of you recommend a player that is more durable and if so, where can we find it. Are there any ways to protect the player heads as we travel? Thanks

RE: New to RVing.

Welcome!. We still consider ourselves newbys even though we have had our RV for 3 years. Each time we travel we learn something new. My husband has become quite good at handling the rig but at the beginning of each travel season he has to relax all over again. Fellow campers are a wonderful source of help. They have all been through being new and are willing to help whenever you need it. I agree that you need to establish a way to communicate while setting up. It can get a little nerve wrecking the first few times. Practice, practice, practice. The suggestion that both travelers need to know how to drive is right on. My husband usually drives but this last summer he had knee problems on a long trip and I had to help out. I have not taken on a back-in site but I can drive and use a pull-thru site. I have backed the truck up and hooked up. You never know when you will have an emergency. You are in for so much fun, all the little problems will be well worth it. Enjoy!

RE: Water Heater problems

WOW this forum is great. I contacted Atwood by email and they sent me a manual but nothing in it helps out. We are going to try your suggestions and if that doesn't work, we will contact the Atwood tech department

RE: Woodalls vs. Trailer Life Campground Directory

We use both book, but use TL the most. My favorite thing is the online TL directory. Mainly we use it as we are planning our trip then make reservations the night before. The reason I like the online service is that many campgrounds have a web site so you can check out their facilities. Prevents a few surprises.

RE: Fire Ants - Treatment of Bites & How to Get Rid of Them?

We have family that we visit in Southern Georgia, so we are quite familiar with those little boogers. I have no idea how to get rid of them but understand that it is an ongoing project. A word of warning. Last summer I stepped in a nest and was bitten several times. I discovered I had developed an allergy to their bites. My foot swelled to several times its normal size. Thank goodness I had benedryl on hand. I took several and treated the bites with Caladryl which helped the itch temporarily. It was more than a week before I was back to normal. I had been bitten several times before but had never had a reaction. Moral of the story is to never be without benedryl.

Water Heater problems

First of all, this is my first time on this or any forum so please be patient while I learn the protocall. We have a fifth wheel, Keystone Laredo. Our water heater still heats but not nearly hot enough like it did when we first got the trailer. We have had several wiring problems with items wired backwards, etc. Whlie it was in warranty the service department fixed things but now we are on our own. The paperwork on our trailer says we should have received a manual for the heater but none was in the package. The heater is an Atwood, Model # GE 16TE w/p, 10 gal. Does anyone have any idea where to start as to identifying the problem without having to pay $100 per hour, or do you know where I could find a manual, possibly online? The manual is # MPD93756.
